Date: 23 March 2023

The aim of this 2-hour, online, training event is to provide participants with a first-hand description of the role of a medical writer and the different types of work a medical writer can be involved in. After the training, participants should have sufficient information to decide whether or not they would like to explore a career as a medical writer.

Regulatory writing and medical communications will be put into context separately. Although there are common skills needed to write any scientific document, employment opportunities tend to specialise in one area or the other. The types of document a medical writer is likely to prepare will be described along with the sources of information and what needs to be done to prepare and complete the document. Additional roles performed by the medical writer will be described as well as the attributes of a good medical writer. The course will conclude with suggestions on how to get started as a medical writer.
